Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1
Aerobic Capacity,
More repetitions is better
The Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Level 1 Test measures aerobic capacity by measuring an individual’s ability to repeatedly perform high intensity shuttle runs.
Equipment Required: Large open space, headphones/speakers, Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 audio track, stopwatch, tape measure, marker cones x3
Procedure:
- Participant selects a starting point and places a cone (Cone A).
- Participant measures a distance of 5m using the tape measure from Cone A and places a second cone (Cone B). Participant then measures a further 20m from Cone B and places a third and final cone (Cone C).
- Participant readies themself on Cone B in a standing split-stance position and starts the Yo-Yo test audio track. When instructed, the participant must run to Cone C before they hear a beep signal. After the signal is made, the participant must then run back to Cone B before the next signal is heard. Once Cone B is reached and the second signal has been made, participants then have a 10s recovery period where they must jog to Cone A and then back to Cone B before the commencement of the next shuttle.
- In this test, participants are allowed two consecutive fail attempts before they must withdraw from the test. If the participant fails to reach a cone before the beep is sounded then the first fail attempt is awarded; if the participant then fails to reach the next cone before the subsequent beep is sounded then the second fail attempt is awarded and the participant must withdraw.
- Participant inputs the level they reached on the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Level 1 test into SharedGoals by clicking on the green “Add score” button.
