Seated Medicine Ball Throw

Power, Bigger/Longer/Further is better

The Seated Medicine Ball Throw measures power of the upper limbs by measuring how far an individual can throw a weighted ball from a seated position.

Equipment Required: Large open space, 4kg medicine ball, tape measure, wall, test administrator x1

Procedure:

  1. Participant performs a short warm-up following a RAMP protocol.
  2. Participant sits on the floor with their legs fully extended, feet 60cm apart, with their back flat against the wall.
  3. Participant holds the medicine ball with their hands on either side slightly behind center, with the back of the ball nestled against their chest. Forearms should be positioned parallel to the ground.
  4. Participant pushes the medicine ball vigorously as far straight forward as they can whilst keeping their back in contact with the wall at all times.
  5. Test administrator measures from the wall, to the site of where the ball first lands in meters/centimeters.
  6. Participant completes three attempts, test administrator records best attempt.
  7. Participant inputs the furthest throw distance into SharedGoals by clicking on the green “Add score” button.
